Opposite questions, but similar answer.
Searches start from the GeCA internal search engine: as you will see, in addition to the space for entering words and lemmas, you can also select categories from the drop-down menu (database; categories; regions; institutions; rights; data type).
To narrow your search, select one or more categories: the more categories you select, the narrower and more precise the search.
On the contrary, to broaden your search, you need to reduce progressively the number of set parameters.
A general tip: for targeted searches, start by immediately entering one or two parameters (for example, the type of document - photograph, text): this will make your initial search broad enough to give you an idea of the heritage available in relation to what you are looking for.
The Geoportal of Food Culture is a constantly growing platform, to which archipelagos of objects, mountains of recipes and continents of stories are added periodically: it is a place that always offers unexplored spaces in which you can wander at will. To get started, a random word in the search engine may be enough to produce curious and unexpected results; or you can select a particular institution of conservation, a type of document, a region. From that first result, you can then browse the pages until you find an area of interest on which to focus your attention.
Perhaps, in the end, you will discover that a tour of the Geoportal is actually the experience you were looking for, following the tracks of the GeCA.
As shown on the ‘Taking part’ page, under ‘How to take part’, the GeCA puts every effort into welcoming new institutions, even if it doesn't shout about it! At present, it would be difficult to achieve widespread action that reaches micro-stories from all over Italy.
For this reason, individual participation is possible through locally associated institutions: anyone wishing to propose their own collection or heritage to the GeCA are kindly asked to refer to the closest participant (geographical proximity or type of content and document to be shared) for advice and tips on how to proceed.
The use of local partner intermediaries enables us to collect the most important contributions, giving visibility and value to the main collections in the area.
